Varisu is a 2023 family entertainer, directed by Vamshi Paidipally, starring Thalapathy Vijay, Rashmika Mandanna, Sarathkumar and others.
Varisu is a refreshing change of pace for Thalapathy Vijay, who has been focusing on action movies for a while. Unfortunately, the movie was poorly promoted and released due to production issues, which is a shame given the buzz around Vijay’s first collaboration with a Telugu producer and director. Despite this, Varisu manages to deliver the old-fashioned charm and entertainment that Vijay is known for.
The plot centers around the Rajendran family, led by businessman Rajendran (Sarath Kumar), who wants his three sons to join him in the business and compete for the position of chairman. However, his middle son Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay) disagrees with this plan and walks away from the family. The rest of the film explores Vijay’s return to his family and the reasons behind it, as well as the relationships between family members and their quest for unity.
The movie’s screenplay is top-notch, and the film has moments throughout for both fans and family audiences. The emotional bond between father, mother, and brother towards the hero is heartwarming, and the audience can connect with the movie well. Vamshi’s making and direction are impressive, and he never compromises on the performance of the artists, which is crucial for this genre. Thalapathy Vijay’s massive screen presence and overall performance dominate in Varisu, and the movie would not have worked with any other actor in this role.
The music and background score by Thaman are impressive, and the cinematography, editing, and production value are great. However, the VFX portions of the film, especially in the Vaa Thalaivaa song, are poorly executed. The art could have been better, and the choreography for some songs, like Ranjithamey, is frustratingly bad. However, Shobi master did an excellent job with Jimikki Ponnu and Celebration of Varisu tracks.
The movie features excellent performances from Sudha, Srikanth, Shaam, and even Rashmika Mandanna and Prakash Raj, despite having a weak character. The emotional scenes between Sarathkumar and Vijay are the highlights of the film.
Overall, Varisu is a timepass watch that can be enjoyed with your family. As the producer said, “dance venuma dance irukk, fight venuma fight irukku, screen presence venuma athum irukku.”

Review : Varisu is a good family entertainer with a complete Thalapathy Vijay show. Vamshi’s good making and excellent screenplay gives a refreshing feel to this cliche story. Dance, fight, screen presence, ellam irukku.
