Maniyarayile Ashokan Review

Maniyarayile Ashokan is a 2020 entertainer, written by Magesh Boji and Vineeth Krishnan, directed by Shamzu Zayba, starring Jacob Gregory, Anupama Parameswaran, Krishna Shankar, Shine Tom Chacko and others. Maniyarayile Ashokan shows us the life of Ashokan. Ashokan was always worried and depressed about being unmarried, and when seeing his friends and cousins getting married. He most of the times got rejected by the brides due to his appearance. Ashokan’s life became joyful again when he came to know about Shyama, who is residing in the same town, loves him secretly. Shockingly, when their family checked their horoscope before marriage, they came to know about a misfortune they might face in future. Ashokan again became hopeless and decided to find an alternative way to solve this issue with his horoscope and live the rest of his life.

Jacob Gregory did justice to the character Ashokan. He got the best debut as the main hero through this film. Maniyarayile Ashokan is a different take on the issues faced by most of the people during their marriage. It also sarcastically shows us how hard it is to get married with the approvals from all around you and with your written horoscope. There are lots of family and friends around Ashokan. Krishna Shankar as Ratheesh and Shine Tom Chacko as Shaiju were the friends who are always with Ashokan. Anupama Parameswaran as Shyama gave us cute performance. We got to see her in a similar character like Mary from Premam. Rest all casts like Vijayaraghavan, Sreelakshmi, Nayana and others made the movie better. The film also had lots of short guest appearances, Sunny Wayne and his wife Renjini as Ashokan’s relatives, appeared in the 1st half of the movie, The producer Dulquer Salmaan was the other guest, he as Arjun gave the cinema and Ashokan good support. The movie also had a surprising person who finishes off in style! 😉 Still wonder, why they needed the character Unnimaya? It felt a little unwanted. Also, the scenes involving the plant looked funny and could have taken in a funny way instead of a serious way of conveying. Some scenes could have explained better. Some times we doubt whether the character is mentally well.

Even though Maniyarayile Ashokan has nothing new to offer in terms of making, the team tried to bring in a different theme. The movie is watchable for the theme, Gregory’s performance as Ashokan, some beautiful moments, and the monjathi pennu at the end.
