DRISHYAM 2 Review

Drishyam 2 is a 2020 suspense, thriller, directed by Jeethu Joseph, starring Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil in lead roles. This movie is a sequel to the 2013 blockbuster Drishyam.

Drishyam 2 happens after 7 years of the Drishyam incidents. When Georgekutty’s elder daughter and wife murder a person for self-defence, who intrudes into their house with a wrong motive, Georgekutty with his intelligence mocked the entire police department by hiding the facts and creating an alternative escape plan. We saw Georgekutty going to any extend to protect his family from criminal proceedings. The police interrogation scenes and the climax of part 1 was a non-forgettable experience. The first part ends with a damn twist showing Georgekutty burying the body of Varun Prabhakar in the most secured place. After 7 years of the incident, Drishyam 2 gaze into the life of Georgekutty and his family after these incidents. We can see the trauma caused to their family by this incident. The neighbours who supported Georgekutty are not believing and doubting him now. As this case is a big shame for the entire police department, they are still investigating every possibility to find the body of the deceased. Georgekutty is now a theatre owner, who is also preparing to commence his first movie. Rest the movie deals with how long the family can escape from getting caught.

Mohanlal, The Complete Actor as Georgekutty is the stunner. Years may change, but this legend’s consistency never changes. There are no evident changes in his performance when we compare with Drishyam. He was still able to portray every mannerism of Georgekutty. Georgekutty is schooled only up to 4th standard. He used to watch all movies irrespective of languages. The intelligence and ideas he learned from the movies are unmatchable and makes him more intelligent to manipulate anything. Being a complex and mysterious character, Mohanlal with his god gifted acting skills, performed with utmost perfection. One of the best actors across the globe for a reason. Meena as Rani was another big plus of the film. As a wife, as a mother, she excelled. Sometimes her anxiety and fear make the audience tensed. Ansiba and Esther did their part very well. The aftermath of an incident, which makes a family mentally disturbed, constant fear in their life and gossipped by others is well portrayed by the director.

Jeethu Joseph is the king. what an amazing and engaging story. Making a sequel for an all-time blockbuster movie is a big responsibility. Drishyam was such a brilliant film, so the expectations for Drishyam 2 were at the peak. Drishyam 2 has some surprises for the viewers. He had researched a lot to find the loopholes and escape plans. This movie is nothing but the sheer brilliance of Jeethu Joseph. Being the main reason for Georgekutty’s brilliance, Drishyam 2’s success is for Jeethu Joseph’s vision. 

The movie never had any forced scenes, it took some time for the movie to enter into its plot. The major drawback of the movie would be not having a good background score. A good background score would have provided a much more thrilling experience. Even though we might feel a little lag in the 1st half, towards the intermission, the pattern of the movie slowly changes to a suspense thriller. The last 30 minutes of the movie is just extraordinary. Murali Gopi, Siddique, Asha Sharath and all the other casts did their part well. 

For every crime, there will be overlooked evidence. This Drishyam sequel should not be missed. The story of an ever-brilliant Classic Criminal. The movie ends with giving us some hope. Definitely, Drishyam 2 was a theatre experience that we missed. A Sureshot blockbuster.
